Anger Management Therapy
Anger Management is a confusing term. If anger is bad, why don't we call it "road anger?" Rage and anger are different. We have successfully taught strategies to individuals, couples, and teens to deal with "anger." Some have been mandated by the court system, others by parents, and some by significant others or employers.
Our approach is very different from others and unique in what we teach. We believe the real problem is that "anger management" solutions often address what to do after the anger has occurred. This seems unproductive to us. We help people realize what is happening before they reach the point of "anger" and what to do at that time - we want to fix the problem BEFORE it becomes one - not after the fact.
As an example, we could teach soldiers what to do after they get wounded - or we could teach them what to do so they don't get wounded.
We believe that preventing makes more sense -- that is our approach. We teach clients skills to stay in control of themselves, their needs, and give them the tools to help themselves work through difficult situations skillfully - without consequences and without regrets. In effect, we have them prevent the spiral of thoughts and behaviors that often lead to destructive actions.
How Do I Know if Anger Management Therapy Is Right For Me?
Some indications that you or a loved one may benefit from our training are:
- Feeling like you have to hold it in and walk away
- Arguments that seem to resurface frequently without being resolved
- Getting into trouble with the law or coworkers or peers
- Engaging in physical, verbal, or emotional abuse when frustrated
- Engaging in threatening and intimidating behaviors (reckless driving, smashing walls or doors, throwing or breaking things)
How Can A Therapist Help Me With Anger Management?
As therapists, we want you to be successful. Helping you recognize triggers and giving you useful skills to deal with them can have a life-changing impact. We empower you to communicate clearly, reduce the amount of energy spent in frustrating "no win" situations, and avoid the pitfalls of trying to react "after the fact." By then the damage is done. We help prevent that unfortunate and unnecessary outcome.
